The solution leverages Shopify Expansion Stores to operate six distinct storefronts – each maintaining its own domain, local currency, and regional catalogue – whilst sharing unified back-end operations from Melbourne headquarters. This architecture delivers localised shopping experiences that feel native to each market while maintaining operational efficiency and brand consistency. The international SEO and region-based customer redirection implemented by The Working Party ensure customers land on the appropriate store for their location, creating a seamless global presence across both KOOKAÏ's digital channels and their 200+ physical boutiques worldwide.
Shopify Expansion Stores allow businesses to manage multiple international storefronts from a single Shopify Plus account, with each store maintaining its own domain, currency, language, and product catalogue while sharing unified back-end operations.
Australia-first testing strategy and AI innovation
KOOKAÏ's approach to eCommerce innovation demonstrates remarkable operational maturity. Rather than deploying new technologies simultaneously across all markets, the brand uses Australia, their largest market, as an innovation laboratory, trialling and refining every enhancement before global rollout. A recent example is the implementation of PowerFront, an AI chatbot solution named Kiki, which supports both customers and internal teams with sophisticated product knowledge. Kiki enables genuinely conversational shopping experiences where customers can ask "Something more like a sundress? Long and flowy, perhaps?" or inquire "What if I spent up to $200?" and receive intelligent, contextual recommendations that mirror the personalised service of KOOKAÏ's physical boutiques. This disciplined approach to innovation extends across the partnership, including KOOKAÏ's 2024 migration to Shopify 2.0 and continuous platform development that prioritises control and capability for internal teams.

KOOKAÏ's Katalyst Foundation works to empower communities by removing barriers to education, health, and social welfare in underprivileged regions of Fiji, focusing particularly on Vanua Levu, where more than 30% of the population lives in poverty.
